Our Steps to Adoption
- √ 1. Submit Preliminary Application
- √ 2. Attend Orientation Meeting
- √ 3. Begin required reading on adoption issues
- √ 4. Attend Educational Seminar
- √ 5. Complete and submit application materials
- √ 6. Intake interview with Bethany social worker
- √ 7. Bethany sends "Letter of Intention to Proceed" with assessment paperwork to submit
- √ 8. Submit assessment paperwork and fee
- √ 9. Individual interviews with Bethany worker
- √ 10. Scheduled home visit with Bethany worker
- √ 11. Bethany social worker completes written Family Assessment
- √ 12. Upon completion, Bethany sends "Certificate of Approval" and foster care certification
- √ 13. Submit Adoptive Family Profile with fee to become a "waiting family"; start outreach/networking
- √ 14. Quarterly Waiting Family meetings/newsletters, connection with Mentor Family for ongoing support and education
- 15. Selection by birth parent: "the call"
- 16. Match meeting; match made
- 17. Relationship building with birth parent(s); prepare for baby's arrival
- 18. Final fee due 2 wks. before due date
- 19. Birth of baby
- 20. Fos-adopt placement ("at-risk" placement) until birthparent parental rights are terminated
- 21. "Adoptive Placement" status once clearance is received from State
- 22. Post Placement supervision period: 4 visits over 6 mos. with Bethany adoption worker
- 23. Finalization process
- 24. Court hearing to finalize adoption
- 25. Submit copy of Final Decree of Adoption to Bethany
- 26. Receive amended birth certificate 3-6 mos. after court hearing
- 27. End of formal relationship with Bethany
- 28. Continued support as a "Bethany Family"

I was thinking about linking to this article too after I saw it on Rocks in my Dryer. SUCH a heartwrenching/ heartwarming story. What a gift that mother gave to her tiny baby.
